Lauren leads our strategic communications across Omidyar Network’s Responsible Tech portfolio.  With over a decade of experience working at the intersection of policy, technology, and civil liberties, Lauren is dedicated to advancing equity in a rapidly changing society. She began her career in journalism seeing the industry as an important lever to protecting democracy. Wanting to make a more direct impact, Lauren moved to the ACLU where she worked for both the New York Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of California. There she worked on a range of initiatives spanning reproductive rights to criminal justice reform. She eventually decided to make the move to the tech sector, first managing policy and trust and safety Communications at Lyft, then acting as the global lead for health product communications at Twitter. There, she built a team dedicated to educating stakeholders on the company’s efforts to combat misinformation, safeguard global elections, and thwart abuse and harassment across the social media service. Today, she is proud to call Oakland, CA her home where you will find her on her bike zipping around to her favorite locally owned shops and restaurants and checking out community events. Lauren received her B.S. in journalism from Northwestern University and her master’s in public policy from UC Berkeley.
