Principal, Reimagining Capitalism

Elena Botella is a principal on the Reimagining Capitalism team, where she focuses on corporations and capital markets. Prior to joining Omidyar Network, Elena was an independent researcher and journalist whose work on banking and economics has been featured in Vice, Slate, The New Republic, Forbes.com, American Banker, The Outline, and other outlets.

Elena Botella is the author of Delinquent: Inside of America’s Debt Machine, forthcoming from University of California Press in September 2022. She is a frequent commentator on financial sector issues, appearing on NBC’s Peacock, Netflix’s Money Explained, The Hill TV, and more.

From 2013 to 2018, Elena worked in a number of roles at Capital One, including as a senior manager overseeing the company’s Secured Card credit card and teaching credit risk management.

Elena Botella earned her B.S. in Economics and Math from Duke University.
