Wafa Ben-Hassine serves as director at Omidyar Network. In this role, Wafa shepherds the organization’s support for a safe, trustworthy, and private social internet.
Prior to joining Omidyar Network, Wafa worked at the International Finance Corporation and the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law. She previously managed the Middle East and North Africa policy team at Access Now, a global non-profit organization defending human rights online, and led the organization’s work with international institutions in Geneva, Switzerland. Her contributions extended to consulting roles with the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and UNESCO, leveraging her expertise in human rights law and digital technologies to advocate for greater online protections. A term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Wafa holds leadership roles in various initiatives focused on the societal impact of emerging technologies.
Wafa holds a J.D. from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law, and a B.A. in political science, public law from the University of California, San Diego, where she served as student body president. She is a licensed attorney with the state of New York.
