Expanded board will galvanize the social change venture’s focus on advancing a responsible tech future, reimagining capitalism, and building cultures of belonging
REDWOOD CITY, CA (February 22, 2023) – Omidyar Network today announced two new board members and a board observer who will each help advance the social change venture’s mission to build more inclusive and equitable societies, in which individuals and communities have the social, economic, and democratic power to thrive.
Established by philanthropists Pam and Pierre Omidyar, Omidyar Network has committed more than $1.8 billion to innovative for-profit companies and nonprofit organizations since 2004. Omidyar Network invests in new ideas, rules, and power that help advance a responsible tech future, reimagine capitalism, and build cultures of belonging.
“We have worked diligently to ensure Omidyar Network’s board and leadership represent a range of perspectives and experiences,” said Omidyar Network CEO Mike Kubzansky. “Expanding our board will bring diverse expertise and new insight toward addressing the structural issues that undergird our economy, technology, and society – three areas that can fundamentally reshape our lives, our democracy, and our world.”
The three new leaders, listed below, will help deepen the organization’s understanding of the communities most affected by broken systems; consumer, capital, and digital markets; philanthropic strategies and governance; social and technological innovation; and US policy.
Dr. Marta L. Tellado, President and CEO of Consumer Reports, and Tolga Kurtoglu, former CEO of PARC: a Xerox company, will serve as Board Members. Additionally, Mona Sutphen, Partner at The Vistria Group, will serve as a Board Observer.
“This is an exciting step in Omidyar Network’s evolution,” said Pat Christen, Board Chair and Managing Director of The Omidyar Group. “We are confident that these three leaders and their deep philanthropic, government, and business experience will strengthen our capacity to govern effectively; informing strategy, ensuring meaningful accountability, and helping set the course for positive impact for years to come. The diversity of perspective, lived experience, and multi-disciplinary expertise they offer is exceptional. ”
Christen, who joined the Omidyar Network board in 2016, serves alongside three other current members: Pam Omidyar, Jeff Alvord, and Mike Kubzansky. Omidyar Network’s co-founder Pierre Omidyar stepped off the board in 2021.
Tellado, Kurtoglu, and Sutphen will begin their service with Omidyar Network effective March 1, 2023.
