David Hsu

Director, Building Cultures of Belonging

As a director at Omidyar Network, David leads the Building Cultures of Belonging portfolio team and manages first-year associates. He was previously part of the firm’s Exploration and Future Sensing unit.

David brings 20 years of experience as a strategist and social scientist via earlier roles at the Hollywood-based cultural consultancy Propper Daley, grassroots campaign startup NationBuilder, University of Pennsylvania, and U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division technology section.

Growing up Chinese-American, Southern Baptist, and in the closet, David became skeptical of “us versus them” after 9/11 and earned his PhD in Politics at Princeton. In 2018, he wrote “Untethered: A Primer on Social Isolation.” David serves as board co-chair at Inclusive Action for the City and co-vice chair at CoGenerate.
