Omidyar Network applauds landmark antitrust ruling against Google

In a historic decision, the DC District Court ruled that Google engages in monopolistic practices using unfair practices to maintain its control over internet searches and online advertising. In the words of Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter, this ruling, “paves the path for innovation for generations to come and protects access to information for all Americans.”

No company is above the law. Our economy needs fair practices to maintain a healthy market so that innovation can thrive and consumers can have real choices. The ruling against Google is a critical step toward ensuring that the digital marketplace remains open and competitive, fostering an environment where new ideas and businesses can flourish, and there is diverse and equitable access to information and opportunities.
