  • Omidyar Network statement on Meta antitrust ruling

    Nov 19, 2025

A woman in a white coat walks on a sunlit street, looking at her phone, with a shadowy wall behind her—perhaps reading the latest Meta Antitrust updates from the Omidyar Network.

In response to yesterday’s federal court decision in the Meta antitrust case regarding the company’s acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp, Omidyar Network CEO Mike Kubzansky released the following statement:

This ruling essentially tells companies: buy every competitor you can — if one unexpected rival emerges a decade later, your past behavior gets excused. TikTok’s later arrival doesn’t excuse Meta’s tactics. Now we’re dealing with reduced choice, weakened privacy protections, and fewer safeguards for young users — who are harmed when a single company controls the platforms they rely on and eliminates safer alternatives. Despite this setback, we’ll keep building toward a tech ecosystem where competition thrives, users have genuine choices, and young people’s safety comes first.”
