Gretchen Phillips serves as senior vice president, strategic partnerships, and chief operating officer at Omidyar Network. As a member of the executive team, she oversees the organization’s operating platform and leads a portfolio of strategic partnerships that advance Omidyar Network’s mission to bend the arc of the digital revolution toward shared power, prosperity, and possibility.
She joined Omidyar Network in 2018 as chief of staff and subsequently served as managing director of Reimagining Capitalism, where she led efforts to build a more equitable economy. In that role, Gretchen developed partnerships that expanded community voice in grantmaking and influenced public and private investment toward a more just and sustainable future.
Gretchen has dedicated her career to building organizations that advance market-oriented solutions to foster inclusive and sustainable growth. Her leadership experience spans the nonprofit, public, and private sectors, including serving as chief executive officer of GenerationHope, as well as roles with PRADAN, TechnoServe, the U.S. Department of State, McKinsey & Company, and Goldman Sachs. Her board service includes BuildUS (co-chair), Aceli Africa (chair), Global Development Incubator, and Friends of Hope.
She holds an MPA in international development from Harvard University and an A.B. in economics, Spanish, and Latin American studies, summa cum laude, from Duke University.
