Lending Circles, a Roundabout Way to a Higher Credit Score

This New York Times story highlights initiatives aimed at bringing informal savings groups into the formal financial sector as a way to help low-income Americans build credit. The U.S. Financial Diaries, a research study of low- and moderate-income families, co-funded by Omidyar Network, reveals that today credit scores are calculated with data that is too narrow.
