In 2011, a team of women investigative journalists founded Publica to bring high-quality, nonpartisan journalism to the democratic debate in Brazil. The organization reports on content that is often overlooked by the mainstream press, with a special focus on issues of human rights, public transparency, and social justice. Acting as an agency, it has pushed the traditional media to cover such issues.
Publica partners with national and international media outlets, organizations, and independent journalists on investigative projects, many of which are translated and republished in media outlets in the United States and elsewhere. It also publishes content produced by partner nonprofit investigative websites from all over the world.
