Despite the growing amount of information published to the Internet, meaningful conversation on web content is limited. Comment threads can enable page-level conversation, but are often out-of-sight, closed, and poorly-moderated. Discussion forums, social media platforms, and email operate apart from source material and so lack context.
Hypothesis aims to change the way that readers interact with web content by enabling sentence-level critique and notetaking on top of news, blogs, scientific articles, books, terms of service, ballot initiatives, legislation, and more. This open platform for conversation enables collaboration and the exchange of ideas and opinions. It’s used in the classroom by teachers and students, in the research lab by scientists, and in the civic realm by citizens pushing for more transparent and accountable governance.
