The Governance Data Alliance is a community of more than 40 organizations dedicated to improving the quality, availability, and usage of governance data. Omidyar Network is a founding member of the alliance, along with the Open Government Partnership, Transparency International, Freedom House, Results for Development, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, and many others.
Many civil society organizations, donors, and governments are challenged by simple data availability and quality for the purposes of measuring transparency and open government. The Governance Data Alliance identifies and shares best practices for data collection and drives down costs of data production by identifying gaps and overlaps in data collection. Most importantly, the alliance builds feedback loops between the producers of governance datasets and users from government, the media, and the private sector to improve market signaling and efficiency.
