The Ferret is an award-winning investigative journalism platform for Scotland and beyond. A registered co-operative, The Ferret’s members are part-owners and contribute to its strategy. It was conceived by a group of journalists in 2013 who had set up an informal “Freedom Of Information Klub”. Originally called the Scottish Inquirer, The Ferret was launched in 2015 to respond to three issues: a perceived democratic deficit in Scotland, the economic crisis in media, and low levels of public trust in journalism, with transparency and community ownership and engagement seen as vital components.
