An independent, nonpartisan organization founded in 2001, the Center for Global Development (CGD) works to reduce global poverty and inequality and promote greater government accountability through research and active engagement with the policy community. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., and with an expanding presence in Europe through its London-based CGD Europe office, CGD engages in work that combines rigorous research with strategic outreach and communications to inform, promote, and provoke meaningful policy change.
CGD maintains a singular focus on global economic development, through topics that include aid effectiveness, climate change, education, globalization, health, migration, and trade. CGD also supports practical policy improvements through initiatives, including Development Impact Bonds, Cash-on-Delivery Aid, Preemptive Contract Sanctions, Oil to Cash, and More Health for the Money.
In collaboration with Omidyar Network, CGD and CGD Europe are developing their work on transparency and openness of government contracts, data for African development, illicit financial flows, and European transparency and accountability.
