The amaBhungane Centre for Investigative Journalism is a nonprofit investigative journalism organization that works to promote a free, capable media and an open, accountable, just democracy. “AmaBhungane” is isiZulu for “the Dung Beetles”- symbolic of the team’s work to “dig dung and fertilize democracy.” AmaBhungane conducts rigorous, high quality investigative journalism, supports others to do the same, and advocates for the critical information rights that enable journalists to do their work.
